Nail products can create vapors, airborne dust or mist, and substances that contact skin or eyes. Exposure depends on the substance and the task. Read the exact product label and SDS rather than inferring safety from the product name or odor. Keep containers closed when they are not being used and avoid food or drinks on potentially contaminated work surfaces.
Use ventilation suited to the contaminant. Properly designed local exhaust captures pollutants close to their source. A desktop particulate collector does not necessarily control gases or chemical vapors, and a ceiling fan alone may only recirculate them. An N95 particulate respirator does not remove solvent vapors. If respiratory protection is needed, the employer should assess the hazards and applicable protection requirements.

Filing dust disappears when a desk collector operates, but solvent odor remains. The technician should not assume airborne vapor exposure is controlled. Review the liquid product SDS, the exhaust system’s actual capability, and relevant workplace procedures.
