Start with the client and equipment
Before a foot bath, examine the feet and lower legs for open sores, scratches or other breaks in the skin barrier. EPA advises against foot-bath use under these conditions. For an eligible client, understand whether the basin has a whirlpool circulation system, air jets, or a simple non-circulating bowl, because the reprocessing instructions differ.

The between-client sequence
After each client, drain water and remove visible debris; wash with soap or detergent, rinse and drain. Apply a suitable EPA-registered hospital disinfectant using the label directions and required wet contact time. For circulating units, run the system as directed so disinfectant reaches the circulation paths; drain and rinse after disinfection. Merely replacing water is never a substitute for these steps.
