Learning objectives
- Explain the decision-making principles and distinguish general safety guidance from state-specific licensing rules.
- Evaluate common salon situations using the relevant authoritative reference.
- Recognize when manufacturer instructions or medical referral are necessary.
Phân biệt vệ sinh giữa khách với vệ sinh cuối ngày ở bồn tuần hoàn, thời gian khử khuẩn và kiểm tra vùng da bị tổn thương.
Main lesson — American English
Foot spa safety has at least two distinct workflows: cleaning and disinfection after each client and additional equipment maintenance for circulating spa systems. Never assume that changing water, using a fresh liner, or seeing a clear basin establishes adequate reprocessing.
For the between-client workflow described by EPA: drain the used water and remove visible debris; clean with soap or detergent and rinse; disinfect with a suitable EPA-registered hospital disinfectant according to its label; and rinse as directed. Surfaces must remain wet for the required product-label contact time. Do not invent a universal short interval to speed turnover.
Circulating equipment adds hidden pathways. For whirlpool and similar systems, EPA recommends circulating the disinfecting solution through the unit for the necessary contact period, following equipment and disinfectant directions. Disinfectant on a visible basin wall is not proof that fluid reached internal piping.
At nightly maintenance, removable filter screens, inlet jets, and other accessible parts may require separate debris removal, cleaning, rinsing and reassembly before disinfecting the circulation system. The correct procedure depends on the equipment design, product label and state requirements.
Before use, inspect feet and lower legs for open wounds, sores or other compromised skin; EPA advises explaining why a foot bath should not be used when those conditions are present. Work that could break skin should not precede the foot soak.
Scenario: a spa was disinfected at closing yesterday, and a new client just completed a pedicure today. Yesterday's process does not substitute for the required between-client sequence. Reprocess again before the next client.
Distinguish cleaning (soil removal), disinfection (reducing infectious organisms as directed), and sterilization (a different process). Do not claim an EPA-disinfected basin is sterile.
