Learning objectives
Explain how germs transfer between activities, distinguish single-use from reusable implements, and apply appropriate hygiene before clean tasks.
Biết thời điểm vệ sinh tay, phân biệt dụng cụ dùng một lần và tái sử dụng, phòng lây nhiễm chéo vào kho dụng cụ sạch.
Core learning — English (US)
Hands, nail tools and surfaces can transfer dirt or microorganisms between activities. Keep nails clean and pay attention to the underside, where germs can accumulate. Clean hands at appropriate transition points, especially after contact with potentially contaminated material and before handling clean supplies. Gloves do not make dirty hands or contaminated tools safe by themselves.
A single-use item is not intended to be carried over to a second client simply because it looks clean. Reusable implements, by contrast, require cleaning and the correct processing method before use again. Follow the item designation, equipment directions, and applicable state board rules. Do not assume that a quick rinse, drying overnight, or spraying fragrance substitutes for validated processing.
The term 'sterilize' in broad consumer hygiene materials should not be treated as a universal legal mandate for every nail tool; a salon must apply the requirements appropriate to each item and jurisdiction. Never invent a uniform reprocessing rule that ignores material compatibility.
Salon scenario
A technician picks up a used nail file and then reaches into a container of clean implements. The technician stops, follows the salon hygiene process and prevents contaminated items from returning to clean storage.
Key terms
Single-use — intended for one use/client. Reusable — designed for multiple uses with appropriate processing. Cross-contamination — transfer of contaminants. Clean storage — protected area for processed implements.
Knowledge checks
- Does drying a single-use item make it reusable? No.
- Why clean beneath nails? Dirt and germs can accumulate there.
- What governs a reusable tool's processing? Its instructions and applicable salon rules.
