Learning objectives
Interpret disinfectant contact time, explain why circulation paths matter, and separate between-client and periodic maintenance.
Hiểu yêu cầu giữ ướt trong thời gian tiếp xúc theo nhãn, vai trò đường ống tuần hoàn và việc kiểm tra lưới lọc tháo rời.
Core learning — English (US)
A disinfectant works under the conditions described on its EPA-registered label. Check the approved use site, dilution if required, personal protective equipment and contact time. During the indicated treatment, surfaces must remain wet as instructed. If a surface dries earlier than required, do not assume that the labeled contact conditions were met.
Whirlpool, air-jet and other recirculating foot spa units may contain hidden spaces behind screens, jets and pipes. Draining and refilling clear-looking water does not clean these surfaces. EPA guidance recommends circulating the appropriate disinfectant solution throughout the system for the full contact time when relevant to equipment type. It also describes nightly attention to removable screens and internal components. Always check the manufacturer's equipment instructions and additional state requirements.
The schedule and specific chemical concentration must not be invented. The EPA publication gives a general process while labels and local rules control specific salon operation. Reprocess equipment after client use as required even when it was disinfected earlier in the day.
Salon scenario
A whirlpool basin looks clean after service, but the screen has residue. The worker should not infer that clear water proves the pipes are clean; follow the full equipment-specific cleaning and disinfection steps.
Key terms
Wet contact time — labeled interval of wet exposure. Recirculation — flow through internal channels. Biofilm — organisms within an attached surface community. Removable screen — a component requiring inspection and maintenance.
Wet contact time — thời gian duy trì bề mặt ướt.
Knowledge checks
- May the worker shorten contact time because the surface looks clean? No.
- Is changing water sufficient to disinfect circulation lines? No.
- Why inspect removable screens? Residue can remain behind them.
